The Midwife Difference
Postpartum Care
After birth, midwives monitor and assess the client and newborn to ensure that both are healthy and recovering well. Education is provided on what is normal vs abnormal and follow up is scheduled for 1-2 days time.
During the postpartum period, midwives will:
- Perform thorough physical exams of the newborn
- Complete routine newborn screening tests
- Provide physical and mental health assessments
- Provide parenting support and instruction, including infant feeding support
- Offer labs and a PAP test before being discharged from care
During the first week postpartum, visits are provided in the client's home to ensure everyone is off to a good start with recovery. After the first week, visits are completed at the clinic until six weeks after birth. Once the six week appointment is completed, the client and baby graduate from our care and are discharged back to their family physician and the baby is provided with a referral to a pediatrician for routine care.
