Midwives offer comprehensive care during pregnancy including regular appointments, routine blood work and diagnostic services. Scheduled appointments typically last 30-45 minutes allowing ample time to assess your wellbeing as well as baby's, provide education and review any questions you may have.
The schedule for prenatal visits is as follows:
Midwives are able to prescribe medications that may be necessary to help manage nausea and vomiting, urinary tract infections, indigestion and other symptoms or conditions related to pregnancy. As midwives are primary heath care providers who specialize in pregnancy care, those in midwifery care will not see a physician or an obstetrician for pregnancy-related care unless there are concerns or complications that fall outside of the midwives scope of care. If such complications arise, midwives collaborate and consult with the appropriate healthcare provider(s) to ensure families and their babies receive the appropriate level of care indicated.
